EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

Morton Electric, Inc. is extremely proud to be the leading Electrical Contractor in Central Florida in regards to educational facilities and campus development.  We have wired more public schools and community colleges in the local area than any other firm, numbering in the several hundred over the last 50 plus years.  Our staff has extensive experience in all scales of projects, as well as complexity of site logistics and safety concerns.  A large number of our schools have had the added difficulty of being an active occupied campus while a complete and extensive renovation was underway.  This requires an enormous amount of planning, teamwork and commitment with the other contractors on site to make this a success.

GOVERNMENTAL / AIRPORT COMPLEX

Morton Electric, Inc. is very excited to have furthered our involvement in the governmental/airport projects over the last ten years. This sector of the marketplace has seen tremendous growth as of late and we are proud to be a part of it. This includes four very large scale and extensive renovation projects at Orlando International Airport that Morton Electric, Inc. has recently finalized. These projects included the renovation of O.I.A.’s existing Central Energy Plant, a vast addition to their baggage conveyor system, complete restoration of an existing two story – three wing terminal building, and the complete replacement of the Owner’s Emergency Power Generator System for their entire Airside 4 Facility. The scope of work included new normal power, new emergency power, branch lighting, branch power wiring, fire alarm, security cameras, P.A. sound, card access, lightning protection, MATV and voice/data. Morton Electric is proud to continue to serve as one of the Electrical Contractors for GOAA’s Continuing Maintenance Program; this selection has kept a small group of our personnel busy with hundreds of smaller scale renovation or repair projects over the last 10 years spread out over O.I.A.’s vast facilities. We are honored to have also been selected as a participant on their Emergency Response Team; GOAA has contact information for multiple key members of our office and field staff in the event our emergency assistance is required.

These projects not only had sizable scope and logistical issues to overcome, but also the unique characteristics of helping keep one of the Nation’s busiest airports active and functioning while working in and around the general public, airline personnel, airport tenant customers and the many hundreds of O.I.A. work staff as well. Projects like these continue to reconfirm Morton Electric, Inc.’s commitment to safety and customer satisfaction in some of the most complex and demanding environments.

SPORTS COMPLEX

Morton Electric, Inc. is extremely proud of one of our latest projects and venture into a new and exciting marketplace, Sports Complex. We have recently concluded the reconstruction of the Florida Citrus Bowl in downtown Orlando, FL. The project consisted of a complete reconstruction of the stadium and its surrounding site with a very aggressive construction schedule. The complete $25 million electrical and systems infrastructure scope for the stadium had to be installed, tested and inspected in only a (7) month construction schedule. Morton Electric, Inc. takes enormous pride in the fact we were able to finish on time and without major injuries or delay. The project included the installation of (8) power company transformers, (9) ground level normal and emergency power paralleling switchboards, (2) separate emergency generators and their associated switchgear and all the underground infrastructure connecting the above items together but that was only the beginning underground phase; other aspects of the stadium under our scope included the network lighting control system, emergency egress lighting system, Fire Alarm/Voice Evac system, site lighting integrated with the street lighting and hardscape design on the perimeter edges, fire command and control rooms, lightning protection system, multiple club areas for social gathering space, numerous hospitality and press area suites, medial x-ray room facility, specialty power provisions at field level, specialty power and POS provisions on upper levels in peripheral open spaces to accommodate stand-alone vendor carts/stands, media rooms and media truck outlet provisions that tie back to the media satellite trucks to provide TV telecast capability.

There were other design elements typical of a stadium that still required a great deal of coordination with other trades; examples of this were the elevators, escalators, fire pumps, main kitchen equipment, concessions equipment, locker room equipment, multiple elaborate scoreboards, electronic signage and an extensive ribbon board encircling the entire second level bowl. This project took an enormous amount of coordination and cooperation between our own field staff, office staff, the General Contractor and 50 or more other subcontractors on site at different construction stages. Morton Electric, Inc. had personnel working double shifts day and night to achieve the aggressive milestone dates; at the peak we had over (325) personnel under our direct supervision and over (70) aerial lifts in constant use. This level of work force required a vast amount of material, tools and equipment to be in continual replenishment at all times of the day, on all levels and every corner of the site. Morton Electric, Inc. had a precision team in place with constant communication between all levels of field labor; project managers, superintendents, work area managers, lead men, material and equipment handlers. Our Morton Electric team exemplified what a “can do” and “no quit” attitude and perseverance can accomplish. The Florida Citrus Bowl reconstruction was intended to attract top level sports and entertainment events for many, many years to come; it is now a world class venue that the City of Orlando is once again proud to showcase to the rest of the country and call their own. Morton Electric, Inc. is very appreciative to have had the opportunity to participate as a key member of this project and knows our entire work staff of all levels is proud of this project and what we were able to be accomplish in such a short duration of time.
